BAPLA launches Digital Guidelines
- Seminar 2

BAPLA launched its new digital guidelines at the AGM 10th October 2006, at the Digital Guidelines and metadata seminar. The seminar was held by Sarah Saunders of Electric Lane and Chairman of the BAPLA Metadata Group, Graeme Cookson of  Electric Lane, consultant in digital imaging and graphics, and Pam Williams, Digital Content Consultant.

The new BAPLA Digital Guidelines v.1 provide a clear framework for both libraries and their image buying customers.

The guidelines were drawn up in consultation with BAPLA’s technical steering committee and working parties.

Raising customer awareness of the value and safeguards provided by a reputable picture library makes good commercial sense for both buyer and supplier. Customers need accurate information to make sound decisions at key stages of the workflow. The digital environment makes the need to work with files that are fit for purpose up most. By fit for purpose we mean aiming for the highest common denominator amongst each members own target customer group.

BAPLA is hopeful that these digital guidelines will give members a benchmark from which to work; on that is written with a customer centric position in mind.

“BAPLA members and international associations are actively invited to review these and are encouraged to submit any revisions, comments or updates.” said BAPLA CEO Linda Royles.
